Rangers beat St Johnstone 5-1 at Ibrox on Sunday afternoon.

Rangers picked up another league win under Steven Gerrard as they hammered St Johnstone in a 5-1 thumping at Ibrox on Sunday afternoon.
The Gers were in good spirits after a superb 2-2 draw at Villarreal on Thursday night, whilst their last league game saw them thrash Dundee 4-0 last weekend.
Gerrard was looking for a similarly convincing win against St Johnstone, and that’s exactly what he got in a dominant performance at Ibrox yesterday.
James Tavernier opened the scoring with a fine free kick before Alfredo Morelos bagged a second, and Scott Arfield added a third when Ryan Kent’s shot rebounded off the crossbar.
Kyle Lafferty tucked home a fourth after good work from Morelos, and whilst Blair Alston pulled one back from the penalty spot for St Johnstone, Rangers winger Daniel Candeias cut inside to make it 5-1 in the late stages of the game.
Rangers have now jumped above Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table following the Bhoys’ defeat at Kilmarnock, and sit second as they continue to thrive under new manager Gerrard this season.

After the game, Rangers striker Lafferty took to Twitter to post a heartfelt message, admitting that there is no better feeling than scoring at Ibrox, having completed his emotional return to the Gers this summer.
Fellow goalscorer Arfield posted a photo of his celebrations on Twitter too, with Rangers players clearly buoyant after another impressive win in what has been a strong start to the season.
