Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is lacking a midfield player, suggests Ibrox legend Barry Ferguson.
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard
Ferguson, who had two separate spells at Rangers and is a legend at Ibrox, believes that the Gers still need a big presence in midfield.
Rangers were quite busy in the summer transfer window and signed a number of players, including midfielder Scott Arfield and forward Kyle Lafferty.
The Ibrox club also have a strong midfield department which includes Ryan Jack, Glenn Middleton, Andy Halliday and Graham Dorrans.
Ferguson wrote in The Daily Record while referring to Rangers’ draw with Villarreal in the Europa League on Thursday evening: “I like Lassana Coulibaly, Andy Halliday and Scott Arfield but they aren’t players who will dictate play or set the tempo.
“Gerrard still needs a big presence in midfield who will call the shots but ironically it was left to a kid to make the biggest impact.
“The introduction of Glenn Middleton was a masterstroke as he changed the dynamic within the side immediately.”

Going strong
Rangers managed to hold Villarreal to a draw at El Madrigal in their Europa League match on Thursday evening.
It was a brilliant result for the Gers, who following that up with a stunning 5-1 victory over St. Johnstone at Ibrox on Sunday afternoon.
Rangers are second in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 11 points from six matches, five points behind leaders Heart of Midlothian.
Gerrard’s side are certainly in the race for the league title this season.
