Rangers were reportedly looking to sign James McArthur over the summer.

Crystal Palace have received a major boost today as they have agreed a new contract with midfielder James McArthur.
McArthur, 30, has been a great servant for Palace since arriving from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2014, racking up nearly 150 appearances for the Eagles.
The Scotland international, who has 32 caps to his name, has been a mainstay for Roy Hodgson this season, and it’s no great surprise to see him stay at Selhurst Park.
Palace today confirmed on their official website that McArthur has penned a new contract, keeping him at the club until 2021 with his existing deal set to expire at the end of the season.
That will keep the former Hamilton Academical midfielder in South London until he’s 33, and puts an end to any rumours about a move to Rangers.
The Daily Mail reported over the summer that Rangers were hoping to lure McArthur to Ibrox to join Steven Gerrard’s revolution, but no move materialised.

A move to join his boyhood club would have been appealing for Rangers-mad McArthur, but today’s new deal secures his future with Palace and almost certainly rules out a move to the Gers.
Had he been out of contract, Rangers may well have looked to lure him back to Glasgow, but with a fee required at any point in the next three years and McArthur entering his 30’s, the window for a move to Rangers has surely gone for the Palace star.
