Tottenham Hotspur suffered their second defeat in as many games on Saturday on an extremely disappointing afternoon.
A number of Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to slam Eric Dier after his performance during Spurs' defeat to Liverpool on Saturday afternoon which saw Mauricio Pochettino's side fall six points behind top spot in the Premier League.
Spurs went into the game looking to bounce back after having to stew on their defeat to Watford in the final game before the international break - and ending the Reds' flawless start would have been a fantastic way to get back on track.
But it was the visitors who left Wembley with the three points as goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino put Liverpool 2-0 up inside 54 minutes before Erik Lamela got one back in the final moments of the game.
Few players were particularly impressive from a Tottenham perspective, but one of the members of Pochettino's squad that is causing the most concern is Dier.
The midfielder was poor in possession and nearly gifted the opposition a goal early on when his back pass put Mo Salah in. His passing was poor throughout the game, and several supporters have suggested that the man who replaced him in the latter stages of the contest, Victor Wanyama, should come in for Tuesday's clash with Inter Milan.
There were some extremely critical comments on social media, with some fans even suggesting that they now want Dier to be sold in the future as he continues to struggle to find form.
Here is the best of the reaction to the midfielder's display on Saturday...
Dier Is useless. Can’t dribble, tackle, run or pass. When he does pass he often plays it to someone who has three people hanging on them or behind someone where they have to stretch to reach it #THFC— Brian Pauley (@madhat1968) September 15, 2018
We were offered £50m for Eric Dier...AND WE REJECTED IT. WHY— Ant. (@AnthonyCOYS) September 15, 2018
Eric dier should never put a football kit on ever again never mind a spurs one! His performance today was the worst I’ve ever seen from any player in my whole life. Done thanks— josh edwards (@joshiedwards10) September 15, 2018
Eric Dier's greatest contribution to today's game was getting hit in the face twice. Absolute nightmare of a game, need to get Wanyama back fit and up to match speed.— Steven Fitzpatrick (@stevofitz) September 15, 2018
Not overly upset about today, didn't deserve to win & both their goals can be put down to mistakes. #TOTLIV
As for midfield, I don't want to see Dier in there again. Our midfield lacks in energy and he is the epitome of it.— Robert (@Robert_THFC) September 15, 2018
Now Wanyama is back the manager must pick him. Wanyama has power and is a smart player. He can get us on the frontfoot like in his debut season.
Trippier, Davies, Dier, Dembele. Just go.— Alex (@thfcAlex11) September 15, 2018
Hard to find positives today. Dier's worst Spurs performance, Dembele sloppy and, worryingly, brushed off the ball the way he normally does to opponents. Trippier shocking defensively, Winks understandably rusty, Eriksen and knackered Kane anonymous.— Barry Graham (@BarryGraham4) September 15, 2018
