Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers and David Bates parted company this summer.
David Bates at Rangers
Bates moved to Rangers on a development loan from Raith Rovers in the summer of 2016 until January 2017 and made subsequently made the deal permanently.
The 21-year-old central defender left the Ibrox club on a permanent contract in the summer transfer window, with the youngster having already agreed to join Hamburg back in April 2018.
Graeme Murty was then the manager of Rangers, and he slammed Bates for his decision, telling The Scottish Sun that the Scotland Under-21 international joined Hamburg due to more money.
Bates has now given his side of things and has made it clear that he did not leave Rangers due to money.
The 21-year-old told The Scottish Sun: “In my opinion what was said was complete lies, to be honest. It was never about the money or stuff like that.
“It was all about feeling appreciation from a club and the way Hamburg went about it. They came over and watched my games and they were always talking.
“They showed how much they wanted me. It was hard to leave Rangers. When I was there I’d asked for a contract for a long time but never got one.”

Moving on
Rangers have moved on from Bates, with new manager Steven Gerrard having signed a number of defenders in the summer transfer window, including Connor Goldson and Gareth McAuley.
As for Bates, the 21-year-old is doing quite well at Hamburg in the second division of Germany.
