Rangers managed to lure manager Steven Gerrard to Ibrox this summer.

Jurgen Klopp, Manager of Liverpool looks on prior to the Premier League match between Liverpool FC and West Ham United at Anfield on August 12, 2018 in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has told the Daily Record that he is talking to Rangers boss Steven Gerrard – but isn’t offering him any advice.

Klopp handed Gerrard a spot coaching Liverpool’s Under-18’s last summer, and it took just one season in that position for him to attract interest from elsewhere.

Rangers pounced to hand Gerrard the reins at Ibrox, landing him as the permanent successor to Pedro Caixinha following the up-and-down interim reign of Graeme Murty.

Gerrard was faced with a huge task in turning Rangers around and attempting to overhaul Celtic at the summit of Scottish football, but he has made a strong start.

Gerrard has brought in 15 new signings this summer, completely re-tooling his Rangers squad whilst bringing in the likes of Allan McGregor, Connor Goldson, Scott Arfield and Kyle Lafferty.

Gerrard opened up with 12 competitive games unbeaten and guided Rangers into the group stage of the Europa League, before losing his unbeaten record to Celtic last weekend.

Gerrard has in some way been aided by former club Liverpool, as they have loaned duo Ovie Ejaria and Ryan Kent to Rangers, whilst released defender Jon Flanagan has made the move to Ibrox too.

Now, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has told the Daily Record that he thinks Gerrard is building a promising team at Ibrox, and the duo are in regular contact – but not for advice, with Klopp no doubt asking about the progress of Ejaria and Kent.

“Rangers were brilliant in Europe – Gerrard is putting a good team together,” said Klopp. “When I started out as a manager I didn’t ask for advice because I didn’t know who to ask. Steven doesn’t ask because he doesn’t have to. We are in contact – but not for advice,” he added.
