Glasgow Rangers still need to strengthen their defensive options, so perhaps they should look to bring the 21-year-old to Ibrox.

Sunday’s dramatic draw was probably the first time that Rangers’ defence did not manage to answer the questions asked of them since Steven Gerrard put the current backline together over the summer.

Criticising the likes of Connor Goldson and James Tavernier strongly would be unfair given that the latter was the only member of the back five to be at Ibrox last season, and they have generally done superbly in the early stages of this campaign.

Nevertheless, Gerrard would be wise to heed the warning from Fir Park and use the final days of the transfer window to try and get a new defender in given that depth remains a concern for the Gers.

And perhaps they should attempt to swoop in ahead of Celtic and make a loan bid for Leicester City’s Filip Benkovic, amid reports from the Daily Mail that the Hoops could look to sign the Foxes’ £13 million summer signing if Dedryck Boyata moves on.

Benkovic is an incredibly exciting talent, but he is yet to get the chance to play for Claude Puel’s men in the Premier League. Given the fact that he is yet to feature in a matchday squad, a loan deal appears to make a lot of sense.

And Rangers would arguably be a fantastic destination for the 21-year-old given their current lack of options. With Borna Barisic and Nikola Katic already at Ibrox, joining his countrymen in the Scottish Premiership could perhaps prove beneficial to the youngster.

And if Rangers were able to get Benkovic through the door during the final days of the window, it would arguably be a fantastic way for Gerrard to round off what has seemingly been a superb summer for the Gers.
