Alfredo Morelos’ excellent form for Rangers under manager Steven Gerrard has seen the striker earn a call-up to Colombia’s national side – and Michael Beale and ex-defender Fabio Cardoso have reacted on Twitter.

Morelos, 22, has scored six goals in 11 games for the Gers under Gerrard, finding the back of the net twice in the Europa League against Maribor and NK Osijek as well as a hat-trick against Kilmarnock.

The former HJK Helsinki striker joins the likes of Radamel Falcao, Juan Cuadrado and Davinson Sanchez in Colombia’s national team, who face Venezuela and Argentina in the international break commencing at the start of September.

Cardoso, who was released by Rangers this summer before returning to Portugal with newly-promoted Santa Fe, and first-team coach Beale congratulated the powerhouse striker on Twitter.

Cardoso’s Tweet is translated as: “Congratulations brother. More than deserved.”

Morelos has propelled Rangers within a whisker of qualifying for the Europa League group stage, as well as helping Gerrard’s side remain unbeaten under the guidance of the former Liverpool and England captain.

The Colombian is yet to be capped by his national side, but he has made six appearances for the Under-20 side. He is expected to start on Thursday as Rangers travel to Russia to face FC Ufa in the second leg of their play-off tie.
