Glasgow Rangers reportedly have competition if they hope to bring Jordan Jones to Ibrox this summer.

It was reported by TEAMtalk over the weekend that Rangers could face competition from Celtic for Jordan Jones’ signature as the Gers prepare a £500,000 bid for the Northern Ireland international.

Jones is an incredibly exciting talent and TEAMtalk reports that he has rejected the chance to sign a new contract at Kilmarnock, seemingly opening the door for Rangers and Celtic to make their moves in the final days of the summer window.

If both Rangers and Celtic put offers on the table for the 23-year-old, then it would appear that Jones could have an incredibly difficult decision to make regarding his future and little time to make it in.

But given the competition that the left winger faces for a place in the team, it would surely make a lot more sense at this stage to look to join Steven Gerrard’s ranks rather than head to Parkhead.

The Gers will play the rest of the season without Jamie Murphy. It is a huge blow for Rangers with Murphy proving to be a superb loan signing during the second-half of the last campaign, and still contributing this term before his injury despite looking like he was short of his best.

Jones would have big boots to fill if he did arrive as Murphy’s replacement, but there is a fantastic opportunity there for the youngster to establish himself in the side long before the Scotland international returns.

Meanwhile, at Celtic, Brendan Rodgers may have not got a lot of business done during this window so far, but Jones surely faces a much tougher task trying to get into the Hoops side as things stand.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is seen during the first leg UEFA Champions League Qualifier between Celtic and Rosenborg at Celtic Park Stadium on July 25, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Lewis Morgan is now in contention to feature following his January move, Jonny Hayes is back from injury, and loan signing Daniel Arzani will soon be adding to Rodgers’ headache once he is fully fit. And with Mikey Johnston doing superbly in their Europa League clash last week, it would appear that Jones is taking a major risk if he looks to join Celtic.

There is no guarantee that both Old Firm sides will look to sign Jones before the deadline, or that they would be the only teams interested if they do move, but if the Killie ace’s decision does come down to Rangers and Celtic, he should arguably not hesitate to head to Ibrox as his first-team prospects look significantly better at Rangers as things stand.
