Rangers have been linked with a move to bring Joe Worrall to Ibrox.

Manager Ally McCoist of Rangers celebrates following his team's victory over Berwick Rangers at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2013 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Former Rangers manager Ally McCoist told BT Sport (26/08/2018) that he thinks the Gers moving for Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall makes sense.

Rangers returned to league action on Sunday afternoon, less than 72 hours after beating Ufa on Thursday night as they travelled to take on Motherwell.

In a topsy-turvy encounter at Fir Park, Motherwell managed to grab a last-minute equaliser to earn a point in a 3-3 draw, with Peter Hartley pouncing with virtually the lack touch of the game.

This was the most fragile we have seen the Rangers defence yet under Steven Gerrard, and even the rock solid Connor Goldson endured a difficult afternoon in the Gers back line.

Gerrard switched to play a back three against Motherwell, but bringing on Lee Wallace late on summed up the lack of depth Gerrard has in defence, and a new centre back is wanted before Friday’s transfer deadline.

A host of players have been linked, but The Express claimed over the weekend that Rangers are edging ahead of Celtic in the race to sign Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall on loan.

Worrall, 21, would fit the bill perfectly as competition for Goldson and Nikola Katic at centre back, and former Rangers manager Ally McCoist has now offered his opinion on a move for the England youth ace.

McCoist told BT Sport (26/08/2018) that he thinks a move for Worrall would ‘make sense’, as whilst he rates Goldson and Katic highly after excellent starts to their Rangers careers, cover is needed in order for Rangers to compete in a number of competitions this season.

“I think that would make sense,” said McCoist. “The two centre-backs, Goldson and Katic, I think have been excellent, along with the goalkeeper. They’ve looked really a lot more solid than they have done in many a season. But they certainly need back-up if they want to compete, as they naturally will want to do, on those fronts,” he added.
