Rangers assistant boss Gary McAllister has told The Herald that the club are still searching for new signings, with recruitment wanted before the transfer deadline.

The Gers have enjoyed a superb start to life under new boss Steven Gerrard, winning five and drawing four of his nine competitive games in charge.

Much of that early success has been down to an impressive transfer window, in which Rangers have backed Gerrard with a whopping 11 new signings to bolster his squad.

Allan McGregor, Jon Flanagan, Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, Borna Barisic, Lassana Coulibaly, Scott Arfield, Ovie Ejaria, Jamie Murphy, Ryan Kent and Umar Sadiq have all joined the club, with some enjoying blistering starts to life at Ibrox.

However, Rangers are still in the market for more additions, as Gerrard wants to bring in a centre back as cover for Goldson and Katic, as well as an experienced striker to compete with Alfredo Morelos and Sadiq.

Kyle Lafferty is the striker wanted, but a host of centre backs have been linked, and Rangers will be working to finalise two more signings before next week’s transfer deadline.

Now, Rangers assistant boss Gary McAllister has told The Herald that the search is ongoing for more signings, with the Gers far from done with their recruitment drive this summer.

McAllister added that Rangers need to beef up their squad to cope with the Europa League, the Scottish Premiership and two domestic cups to deal with, and Rangers fans should be looking forward to a couple of additions yet.

“The search is ongoing for anyone that can come in and make us better,” said McAllister. “That is always the case with a big club. Recruitment is crucial. I think the core of the work has been done and we are looking fairly settled. But there will be a tweak here and there. We have lost a couple of players, so strengthening those areas where we have lost is to make sure we have got cover because the demands on certain individuals might be too much.”

“We need to be able to rotate because if we can deal with the Russian side and get into the Europa League proper, there are going to be demands, not just on 11 players. That is something that the manager and the staff have emphasised. With the demands of getting into the Europa League, it is going to be 18 players. You can’t have the same 11 turning out performances in games with the travel and the quick turnovers. It is impossible,” he added.
