Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers reportedly want former Gers forward Kyle Lafferty back at Ibrox.
Kyle Lafferty at Rangers
McDonald, though, does believe that Lafferty will be a good signing for Rangers, who are reportedly interested in bringing the forward back to Ibrox in the summer transfer window.
According to The Edinburgh Evening News, Rangers and Heart of Midlothian are close to reaching an agreement over the transfer of the Northern Ireland international forward.
McDonald believes that Lafferty would be a good signing for Rangers, who are aiming to challenge his former club and Old Firm rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title this season.
McDonald told BBC Sport: “Rangers need to build on their squad rather than letting go one of their better players. They are looking to bring in one or two more, Kyle Lafferty being one of them.
“I think they will be wary of spending too much money on a 30-year-old. I wouldn’t imagine he would play every week.
“The beauty of Kyle though is he can play in the wide areas as well, which helps the squad. He can fill in somewhere and cause chaos. I think he would be a great addition to the Rangers squad.”

Good signing for Rangers
Lafferty is not a prolific goalscorer, but the former Rangers forward does have the ability to turn up in big games and score big goals.
The Northern Ireland international recently scored the winner for Hearts against Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
Both Alfredo Morelos and Umar Sadiq are young players, and Rangers could do with the experience of Lafferty.
