Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers brought former Gers goalkeeper Allan McGregor to Ibrox this summer.
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard
McGregor joined Rangers in the summer transfer window on a free following his departure from Hull City in the Championship in England at the end of last season.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper started his professional club football career at Rangers, and was on the books of the Gers from 1998 until 2012.
The Scotland international has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper at Rangers this season, and manager Gerrard has spoken highly of the former Besiktas man.
The Liverpool legend has also admitted that he did not sign McGregor, as the foundations for the goalkeeper to return to Rangers had already been laid before he arrived at Ibrox.
Gerrard told The Scottish Sun: “It was a no-brainer for me. I can’t take any credit for the signing of Allan, it was 99 per cent down the line in terms of the recruitment that went before me.
“All I was asked was ‘do you want to tick the box’ — and it was probably one of the stupidest questions I have ever been asked to be honest. It was a yes straight away and one of those signings that was a no-brainer. “

Quality signing
McGregor is a hugely experienced goalkeeper, and his performances and saves in the Scottish Premiership and in the Europa League qualifiers have been superb.
Wes Foderingham is going to find it very hard to get a game in the Scottish Premiership this season if McGregor maintains his form.
