Rangers manager Steven Gerrard sanctioned the 24-year-old’s departure from Ibrox last week.

Kris Boyd has told Talksport that Josh Windass will be missed by Rangers and that his former club still need ‘a couple of bodies up front’.
Rangers sold Windass to Wigan Athletic for around £2 million in the final hours of the English transfer window, despite the forward having appeared in all five of Steven Gerrard’s competitive matches in charge of the Ibrox side.
And while the 24-year-old also scored 18 goals and set up eight for Rangers last season, he wasn’t every Gers fan’s cup of tea.
But Boyd, the Kilmarnock striker who spent five years at Ibrox across two spells, said: “I was and I wasn’t (surprised that Windass left), to be honest.
“There were some times when Josh was playing you thought well this kid can do anything. But I don’t really think that he was given a run in his right position at Rangers.
“He was always off the flanks. The wee spell he had at the end of last season, when he was off the main striker, I think he caused a lot of teams problems.
“He’s got the attributes to do well. Hopefully he does because he’s a young kid with a lot of talent and hopefully he goes on and fulfils that.

“I think he will be missed because he did bring stuff to the Rangers team but it’s up to someone else to step in and replace him.
And the 34-year-old added: “I think they’re still trying to sign Kyle Lafferty (the Hearts striker and one of Boyd’s former Ibrox teammates) as well, Rangers. There’s no doubt Rangers do need a couple of bodies up front.”
According to the Daily Express, Hearts have turned down Rangers’ cash-plus-Lee Wallace offer for Lafferty.
