Some Aston Villa fans on Twitter are slaughtering Mile Jedinak.
The Villans made it two wins from two in the Championship, but they rode their luck to do so.
Aston Villa beat Wigan Athletic 3-2 in the West Midlands yesterday afternoon, with Birkir Bjarnason grabbing a last-minute winner for Steve Bruce's side.
It was an erratic defensive performance from the hosts and much of that is perhaps down to Bruce's decision to play Jedinak - a central midfielder - in the middle of defence.
The Australia international had some good moments, but he more or less cost Aston Villa a goal when his poor back pass led to Nick Powell equalising for the Latics on 41 minutes.
The 34-year-old is in his third season at Villa Park following a £4 million switch from Crystal Palace two years ago.
But some Aston Villa fans were firm in their desire to never see him as a centre-back again.
First goal could of happened even if Jedinak was playing in midfield. He under hit the pass back. But why are we playing out from the back anyway #avfc— Luke Marshall (@marshallavfc) August 11, 2018
Jedinak had one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen anyone have in a villa shirt. Absolutely shocking. #avfc— Aston Villa Daily (@AVFC_Daily) August 11, 2018
Things I've learnt today jedinak is a terrible terrible centre half&mcginn is indeed super!great 3 points we really dug in when needed!#avfc— david greenfield (@daveavfcg) August 11, 2018
I’d take a loan to get a centre back rather than a left back especially after watching today! I can take Hutton left back.. but can’t take Jedinak at centre back and Bruce obviously doesn’t fancy Elphick! #avfc— Aston Villa Updates (@AstonVilla_info) August 11, 2018
We really do love playing people out of position, especially in the heart of defence, Jedinak channeling his inner Micah Richards #avfc— Jack Millman (@LordMillman) August 11, 2018
I really am torn when it comes to Bruce. I want to think positively but then he puts Jedinak as a CB pic.twitter.com/9xuP9KWAF7— Dave (@avfc010) August 11, 2018
Despite the error, Jedinak got away with it and it's been a satisfactory last week or so for Bruce's side, who also retained the services of Jack Grealish amid huge speculation about a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
