Steven Gerrard has shared a positive update on Rangers midfielder Jordan Rossiter.

Steven Gerrard has revealed to Rangers' official website that injury-hit midfielder Jordan Rossiter is "progressing well" in his return to fitness and could be back in a matter of weeks.

The former Liverpool midfielder suffered an ankle injury earlier this summer.

Up until then, new Rangers boss Gerrard had admitted that Rossiter - once his team-mate at Anfield - was the stand-out performer in pre season for the Gers.

The 21-year-old has only managed nine senior appearances for the Ibrox side across all competitions since arriving in Glasgow two years ago, following a number of recurring injuries.

But Gerrard has told the club's official website that Rossiter - who earns £10,000 per week in Scotland [The Daily Mail] - is close to a comeback.

He said: "Jordan Rossiter's progressing well. He won't be long [in coming back] but it'll still be a few weeks."

Despite the positive update, Rangers fans won't be holding their breath over seeing Rossiter fulfill his potential.

They have seen their fair share of false dawns regarding the young midfielder before and therefore many will be growing pessimistic over his future at the Gers.
