Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata could miss the club’s next two matches, according to The Scottish Sun.

Brendan Rodgers’s side will take on Heart of Midlothian away from home in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon.

Then on Tuesday evening, the Hoops will face AEK Athens away from home in the second leg of the Champions League qualifying third round tie.

According to The Scottish Sun, Boyata could miss Celtic’s games against Hearts and Athens due to injury issues.

The 27-year-old former Manchester City defender - who earns £14,000 per week, as salary, as reported by The Daily Star - reportedly missed training due to a back injury.

Major blow for Celtic

Boyata is one of the best defenders on the books of Celtic, and him potentially missing the Hoops’ next two games will be a massive blow for the Glasgow giants.

While a draw or even a loss against Hearts this afternoon is not exactly going to be big deal, Celtic cannot afford to slip up in Greece next week, especially as the first leg at Celtic Park ended in a 1-1 draw.

Not having Boyata in the team against Athens will be a massive blow for Celtic.
