Report: Tottenham Hotspur target Kovacic goes on strike, attempting to force exit

Reported Tottenham target is desperate to move on from Real Madrid.

Mateo Kovacic is stepping up his efforts to force a move away from Real Madrid.

Spanish newspaper Marca report Kovacic refused to return to training on Monday as requested, and notified Real he will not return until his future is resolved.

 

Kovacic has requested to leave Real Madrid on three separate occasions this summer already but his pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

The Croatia star is a reported transfer target for Tottenham HotspurFootball.London reported earlier this summer. 

Real were said to want as much as £44 million to consider selling Kovacic.

Kovacic signed for Real Madrid from Inter Milan under Rafa Benitez and has had a difficult time establishing himself as a first choice player for the club.

Tottenham have had a difficult transfer window so far, failing to sign a single player.

Kovacic's decision is not based specifically on Tottenham's interest, but his actions could provide them with the opening they need to push through a deal before Thursday's deadline.
