Brentford have tabled a bid for Olympiacos defender Bjorn Engels as they look to strengthen their squad before the close of the transfer window, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Brentford are looking for defensive reinforcements after selling John Egan to Championship rivals Sheffield United and they have targeted Engels as his replacement.

Engels has impressed for Olympiacos since joining them in the summer of 2017 from Club Brugge, but the Greek club are understood to be willing to sell him for the right offer despite the player still having three years to run on his contract.

The former Belgium Under-21 international made 23 appearances in all competitions for Olympiacos during his debut season in Greece.
