According to a report from Calciomercato, Manchester United are weighing up a last-gasp bid to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic before Thursday's transfer deadline.
The Red Devils have so far added just three new signings this summer, as Lee Grant, Diogo Dalot and Fred have arrived, but Jose Mourinho is desperate for more additions.
A centre back appears to be a top priority, with Toby Alderweireld, Jerome Boateng and Harry Maguire all touted, but another midfielder may yet be on Mourinho's wish list.
Calciomercato now report that United are registering a late interest in Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, with a desire there to rush through a deal before Thursday's transfer deadline.
Milinkovic-Savic, 23, joined Lazio from Belgian side Genk in 2015, and he starred last season with 12 goals and three assists in 35 Serie A games, making himself one of the world's most exciting midfielders.
The Spain-born ace played for Serbia at this summer's World Cup in Russia, and has been attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs around having impressed with his size and attacking ability from midfield.
Ex-Genk scout Roland Janssen helped bring Milinkovic-Savic to Genk and is now working for United, with the Belgian potentially helping drive the interest in the dynamic midfielder.
However, United would have to break their transfer record to seal a deal, with Lazio looking for a staggering €155million (£138million), whilst Jorge Mendes – Mourinho's agent – has allegedly been put in charge of sealing a transfer, with the signs adding up to a late, blockbuster bid from United.
