Championship trio Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion and Reading are considering beat-the-deadline moves for Peterborough attacker Marcus Maddison, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
All three clubs are long-term admirers of Maddison and have been credited with an interest in the midfielder during this summer's transfer window.
Peterborough are ready to sell Maddison before the end of the transfer window after agreeing to put him on the transfer list following the club's failure to win promotion from League One last season.
Maddison is regarded as one of the best talents outside the top two leagues in England after impressing for Peterborough for the last fours years following his arrival from Gateshead.
The skilful attacker has scored 42 goals for Peterborough and has the most assists in all the leagues in England since the 2015/16 season with 46 assists.
Peterborough are planning for life without Maddison, but so far none of his suitors have managed to agree a deal with the League One club for the playmaker.
Leeds, West Brom and Reading have all expressed an interest in Maddison this summer and they are waiting in the wings to make a firm move for the 24-year-old before Thursday's transfer deadline.
