Ally McCoist has praised Steven Gerrard for the beginning of his Rangers reign as manager.

Ally McCoist has said that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has installed a positivity at Ibrox that has been absent for a number of years.
The 38-year-old remains unbeaten in his first five competitive games in charge, and commenced the league campaign with a 1-1 away draw against Aberdeen at the weekend.
The Gers had to play the majority of the match with just 10 men after Alfredo Morelos’ red card, yet still impressed at Pittodrie. Rangers have also safely navigated their way to the Europa League third qualifying round with two wins and two draws, as Gerrard makes his stamp on his first job as a first-team manger.
“In terms of the start to the season, it was excellent,” McCoist told talkSPORT.
“I’ve got to say he’s (Gerrard) handled himself very well so far and, without getting carried away, I think there’s a real feeling of optimism among the Rangers support.
“And that’s a feeling that probably hasn’t been there for a good number of years, probably since Walter [Smith] left and the club went into its troubles.”

Rangers will be looking to continue a decent start when they host Maribor on Thursday in European qualifying, before welcoming St Mirren three days later to Ibrox.
Gerrard has overseen wholesale changes in the squad during the summer transfer window, as the Light Blues look to try to bridge the gap to domestic heavyweights and rivals Celtic. Gerrard is most recognised for his time as a Liverpool player, but is trying his hand at management and is quickly winning the hearts of supporters.
