West Ham United's pre-season preparations continued on Friday evening as they took on French side Angers in Austria, claiming a 1-0 win in their final friendly before the Premier League kick off.

The Hammers have enjoyed a strong summer, and after a draw and two wins over Championship sides Preston North End, Aston Villa and Ipswich Town, they headed to Austria.

A penalty shoot-out win over Mainz after a 1-1 draw saw West Ham win the Betway Cup, and their final game in Austria saw them take on French outfit Angers on Friday evening.

West Ham claimed a 1-0 win, as Javier Hernandez bagged the only goal of the game, converting Aaron Cresswell's cross to give Manuel Pellegrini another win ahead of the trip to Liverpool next week.

A number of West Ham players have given Pellegrini plenty to think about in terms of team selection, and he faces a major dilemma over his left back spot moving forward.

Arthur Masuaku has been West Ham's first-choice left back during pre-season, and his attacking ability has made him popular, with Pellegrini able to field the 26-year-old on the left and the similarly fast and attack-minded Ryan Fredericks on the right.

However, Cresswell is now working his way back to fitness, and he has been West Ham's regular left back since his 2014 move from Ipswich Town, and his assist for Hernandez's goal against Angers has sparked debate over who should start at left back against Liverpool.

Some West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to suggest that Cresswell should be in the side due to his greater defensive ability than Masuaku, especially against a dangerous Liverpool attack, whilst also praising his crossing ability, with others calling for Masuaku to start having impressed in pre-season under Pellegrini – and the Chilean faces a tough call at Anfield next week.
