Everton are set to seal their second summer signing in Barcelona left back Lucas Digne, but more new faces could be arriving at Goodison Park before the transfer deadline.
The Toffees took a while to get going in the transfer market, but swooped to land Richarlison from Watford last week as their first summer signing, with Digne now set to follow suit.
Everton still need more additions, and whilst a centre back and a central midfielder should be a priority for Marcel Brands and Marco Silva, another winger is being linked.
Spanish newspaper Marca claim that Everton are interested in signing Villarreal winger Denis Cheryshev, with the La Liga side seemingly willing to let him leave this summer.
Cheryshev, 27, didn't make much of an impact with Villarreal last season, starting just nine La Liga games and registering only two goals and one assist – but he became a star at the World Cup.
The wide man hit four goals in Russia's journey to the quarter-finals of their home tournament, including a brace against Saudi Arabia and a stunning long-range goal against Croatia.
Now, Everton could look to give the former Real Madrid a talent a chance to impress in England – and fans have offered something of a split opinion on Twitter about a possible move.
Some want to see Cheryshev arrive at Goodison Park, feeling he's an experienced winger who can come in on the left and replace Ademola Lookman if he leaves the club, though others feel that another winger isn't what Everton need right now, with some underwhelmed.
Would love to see Denis Cheryshev at the Toffees— Sean Warren (@SeanWarren1) July 31, 2018
Yes all day. Been impressed with him since his Real days. Odd he didn’t play much last season but Villarreal are improving again. Sooner keep lookman tho— toffee32 (@Toffeemaan) July 30, 2018
He is very good and would be great singing for us but that mean lookman is goning and i am happy with that— Ali (@Ali07594360) July 30, 2018
Yeah cos what we need is another winger— Tiny lloyd (@LloydTiny) July 30, 2018
Plan: Sell Lookman if he dosent want to be here but add a sell on percentage so we make money when he eventually gets sold to city in three years. Get cheryshev in so he can alternate and he’s got class and experience. pic.twitter.com/Jq4MqV1sPq— Sam (@efcsamuel) July 31, 2018
If this happened I think we'd maybe be looking at Walcott as the 9 (which could work) https://t.co/2CZ8RTf9I0— Ged (@Ged_Robinson) July 30, 2018
My thought is that I wish our transfer strategy would go deeper than players who impressed at the world cup— James Hollis (@jwhollis) July 30, 2018
