So far this summer, Derby County have signed three players who were heavily linked with a move to Leeds United – Harry Wilson, Jack Marriott and Florian Jozefzoon.
And it seems that The Rams fans would like nothing more than to hijack another deal that appears to be edging ever closer to completion.
Leeds’ pursuit of Barry Douglas came right out of the blue on Wednesday. And it seems that Wolves’ number three could be at Elland Road before the weekend, according to the Daily Record (live blog, 1.53pm), with the Scotland international set to undergo a medical.
Douglas was arguably the best left-back in the Championship last season and only Robert Snodgrass could match his tally of 14 assists. Blessed with a brilliant left foot and superb set-piece delivery, he is absolutely the man to solve Leeds’ problem position. And, in today’s market, his £5 million transfer fee is an absolute snip.
Though Leeds aren’t the only Championship side who endured problems at left-back last season. Derby too lacked a number three with Douglas’ talent and creative qualities. Craig Forsyth, the regular starter, managed just two assists in 2017/18.
So no wonder Derby fans are encouraging their club to act now and hijack what could be one of the summer’s best deals.
I cant believe wolves would let him go! Unbelievably impressive when i watched him last season, his set pieces as well!— Andy Sutton (@rooybears) July 26, 2018
Genuinely think Marriott and Jerome are great as our 2, we should spend £6m on Bryan or Douglas rather than buy Waghorn imo #dcfc— Daniel (@JamesDanielDCFC) July 25, 2018
Wolves selling Barry Douglas, absolute class leftback at this level, forget the waghorn deal and get Marriott and Douglas instead Derby! #dcfc— Stefan Brooe (@StefanBroome) July 25, 2018
3 million for Barry Douglas you have to be kidding me why are we not on this!— DCFC (@DcfcFansTalk) July 25, 2018
Right stop his Waghorn nonsense, get Marriott over the line and sign Barry Douglas! Him and Max Lowe fighting it out through season. Then sell Forsyth— DCFC (@DcfcFansTalk) July 25, 2018
