Adam Lallana chose a pretty poor time to claim that he was 'like a new signing' for Liverpool.

Speaking to The Liverpool Echo this week, the 30-year-old, who struggled with injury last season, suggested that he was ready to take the 2018-19 campaign by the horns and intimated that he was like a new addition for manager Jurgen Klopp this summer.

In keeping with that analogy then, the former Southampton man, a £20 million signing by Brendan Rodgers back in 2014, had quite a poor 'debut' in the United States this morning.

Klopp started him in the Reds' pre-season clash with Manchester City but Lallana - hauled off at half time, along with most of the first XI - struggled to create much for the Anfield club.

And some Liverpool fans on Twitter reckon that the German manager should get rid of him.

For the sake of context, this was a nothing game for both clubs and therefore too much shouldn't be read into individual performances.

That being said, Lallana may not have much of a role to play on Merseyside anymore regardless of the occasion. At the moment, there is no chance he would get a game under Klopp - be it on the wing or midfield - in a competitive game, so maybe selling wouldn't be a bad idea this summer.
