Leeds United may be about to secure the signature of Wolverhampton Wanderers left back Barry Douglas, but their pursuit of a new striker goes on, jus two weeks from the start of the new Championship season.

The Whites have secured just two signings so far this summer, as Jamal Blackman and Lewis Baker have joined on loan from Chelsea for the season, despite many expecting mass spending to support new boss Marcelo Bielsa.

Bielsa is set to bring in Douglas, but signing a striker is imperative before the transfer window slams shut, and attempts to sign Derby County's Matej Vydra have so far fallen short.

Now, the Yorkshire Evening Post report that Leeds hold an interest in signing Patrick Bamford, the forward who Victor Orta signed for Middlesbrough in the January 2017 transfer window.

Bamford, 24, came up through the ranks with Nottingham Forest before heading to Chelsea in 2012, but he failed to make a single first-team appearance for the Blues before heading to Boro.

Last term, Bamford hit 11 goals in the Championship and even scored a hat-trick against Leeds, and the Whites now appear keen to try and lure Bamford to Elland Road this summer.

Unsurprisingly, the rumours have sparked a reaction from many, with some Leeds fans keen to see Bamford arrive having impressed as an all-round forward, and others feel that going for him smacks of desperation late in the window, with a real split opinion amongst Whites supporters.

Boro fans widely want to keep Bamford, joking that the club should send Rudy Gestede to Leeds instead, claiming that Bamford is not for sale and won't be signing for Bielsa's side any time soon.
