Steve Bruce's Aston Villa side were beaten by West Ham in pre-season action yesterday.
Andre Green has received rave reviews for his performance for Aston Villa in their friendly against West Ham United last night.
Green has been on the verge of a first-team breakthrough at Villa for some time, but has just not quite been able to force his way into Steve Bruce’s line-up.
However, with Villa seemingly having to sell some key players this summer, Green could be handed more chances next term.
And the initial signs that he could head into the new season in good form look good.
Villa were outplayed by West Ham United last night, but Green scored their goal in a 3-1 defeat.
And Villa fans certainly seem to believe that Green can make an impact, if he is given chances by Bruce.
The only players who impressed tonight were Doyle-Hayes and green #avfc— the ginger one (@villan_ginger) July 25, 2018
My opinions after tonight:— Andy Bowker (@AndyBowkA) July 25, 2018
1: We NEED a new number 1
2: Jedinak is not a centre back.but was calm and did well, i like him in the team
3: Bjarnason showed glimpses of what he can do. I think he could go on to do well
4: Kodjia looked a little lazy
5: green looked VERY good! #avfc
Positives from tonight;— (@KingsyAVFC) July 25, 2018
- Jake Doyle Hayes was fantastic
- Green looks sharp at last
- Incredible support from fans
- Far too reliant on Jack Grealish
- Didn’t look close to scoring for 80 mins
- Steve Bruce will still be here for months to come
If Green has a full season think he’s got 10+ goals in him. Might be enough to accommodate Davis and I’m sure his strike will improve although I don’t think he’ll ever be prolific.— Bobby Bruce XXX (@SupportAVFC) July 26, 2018
Outplayed tonight, don’t mind as shown a through cracks that needed highlighting. Think anyone that thinks this side is challenging next year currently is laughing, needs investment to do so. Elphick & Lansbury looking beyond poor for me. Green think needs placing in, sharp #AVFC— Reece (@Reece_AV) July 25, 2018
Villa confirmed that Bruce would be in charge for the start of the new season yesterday, after speculation over his future.
The claret and blues are first in action against Hull City in two weekends’ time.
