Loris Karius needed an exceptional pre-season to bounce back from his horror display in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in May.
But that hasn’t exactly gone to plan. Karius gifted Tranmere Rovers a goal earlier this month after fumbling a tame free-kick and was unconvincing and erratic once more in the 3-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Sunday.
And with Liverpool now boasting the world’s most expensive goalkeeper in Alisson Becker, who sealed a £65 million move to Anfield from Roma last week, it seems that Karius’ future is now up in the air.
The Telegraph is reporting that the German is considering his future on Merseyside after feeling let down by Jurgen Klopp’s decision to pay big money for Alisson, who is certain to be Liverpool’s number one when the new Premier League season kicks off.
There has been speculation over the future of Simon Mignolet, who was dropped for Karius in January and has been open about his unhappiness on the Liverpool bench. But The Telegraph is reporting that it is now Karius who looks the most likely to leave.
The former Mainz goalkeeper, who joined in 2016 for £4.7 million, will hold talks with Klopp in the coming days.
And could his last game for Liverpool be that Champions League nightmare?
