Stoke City boss Gary Rowett is reportedly keen on Huddersfield Town’s Tom Ince.

Some Derby County fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to point out the irony at Stoke City reportedly wanting to sign Huddersfield Town’s Tom Ince after boss Gary Rowett sold him 12 months ago.

According to a report in The Sun, Stoke boss Rowett wants the former Pride Park man to replace Xherdan Shaqiri at the Bet365 Stadium with Huddersfield holding out for a £10 million fee.

It’s interesting that Rowett would consider a move for Ince considering he sold the player to the Terriers only 12 months ago while in charge of the Rams.

Ince had a terrific campaign at Pride Park, scoring 14 Championship goals and grabbing a further six assists in 41 league starts for a side which ultimately finished outside the playoffs.

The majority of Ince’s goals came under former boss Steve McClaren, and it appeared he didn’t really fit into Rowett’s style with a preference of having hardworking runners in wide areas rather than creative ball-players.

Rowett ultimately sold the 26-year-old to Huddersfield, as well as selling Will Hughes to Watford, and replaced them with the likes of Tom Huddlestone, Curtis Davies and Tom Lawrence.

Derby fans won’t forgive Rowett in a hurry for selling off their better players and leaving at the first opportunity of a more lucrative offer elsewhere, and now Stoke’s reported move for Ince only makes it worse.

There is a huge irony in Rowett selling the player at Derby as he didn’t really fit into his plans only to move in for him 12 months later as he bids to replace the Potters’ most creative player Shaqiri.
