Leeds United have reportedly failed to land Diego Polenta.

According to Uruguayan newspaper Ovacion, Leeds United have failed in a bid to convince Uruguayan defender Diego Polenta to join the club despite him being a free agent.
The Whites have so far tied up just two first-team signings this summer, with Chelsea duo Jamal Blackman and Lewis Baker joining the club on loan for the season.
Leeds still need more new faces though, and new manager Marcelo Bielsa certainly needs additions in defence, with Leeds short of quality at the back.
Now, Uruguayan newspaper Ovacion report that Leeds have attempted to sign defender Diego Polenta on a free transfer, but have been unable to convince him to make the move.
It’s claimed that Leeds, Mexican side Atlas and Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ittihad all made offers to sign Polenta, but he hasn’t been convinced by any of them – and could yet return to Uruguayan side Nacional.
Polenta, 26, started out with Danubio before heading to Italy with Genoa in 2008, and he stayed until 2016 before returning to Uruguay with Nacional in 2016.

The former Uruguay Under-23 international has been captaining Nacional, making more than 80 appearances for the club whilst helping them win two league titles.
Capable of playing at centre back and left back, Polenta could have been a versatile option for Bielsa at the back, but their attempts to land Polenta on a free transfer appear to have reached a dead end.
