Glasgow Rangers have been linked with a potential move for Dominic Solanke, but Steven Gerrard may be waiting to find out if he can bring him to Ibrox.

According to a report from The Scottish Sun last month, Rangers are keen to bring Dominic Solanke to Ibrox on loan this summer as Steven Gerrard looks to bolster his striker options.

The Scottish Sun’s report however, stated that Jurgen Klopp was likely to make Rangers wait for a decision for most of the summer as he decided whether the young forward – who earns £20,000-a-week at Anfield, according to Spotrac – is in his plans for the coming campaign.

Gerrard appears to still be waiting for that decision, but perhaps Rangers’ hopes of landing Solanke on loan could have received a boost thanks to Daniel Sturridge.

In comments reported by the Daily Mirror, Sturridge suggested that his preference is to stay on Merseyside as speculation continues to linger regarding his Liverpool future.

Given his preference to stay and the fact that Klopp has hinted that he could still feature in his plans by including him in all of the Reds’ pre-season fixtures so far, perhaps it would not be out of the question for Solanke to be slightly lower down the pecking order than he would have expected – especially now that Rhian Brewster has signed a professional contract at the club.

With Sturridge’s quality when fit and Brewster’s potential, Klopp has a lot of bases covered ahead of the coming season. Solanke ticks a lot of boxes also, but perhaps the fact that he is definitely at a stage of his development where he needs regular game-time will make a loan exit seem a lot more appealing to Klopp and the striker himself.

And if that proves to be the case, Rangers must make sure that they are still in the hunt, especially after the difficult evening that Alfredo Morelos endured in Macedonia during their Europa League qualifier on Tuesday.
