Murray, who played with the Sheffield Wednesday star for three years at Watford, was on the opposite side as the Owls travelled to Lincoln City on Friday.

Two former Watford players shared an unexpected reunion as Sheffield Wednesday travelled to Lincoln City on Friday.

Wednesday won their opening pre-season friendly courtesy of Fernando Forestieri's second-half strike.

But the Argentina-born forward was not the only ex-Watford man on show at Sincil Bank - with Daniel Pudil also playing 45 minutes for the Owls and Sean Murray appearing, presumably on trial, for the Imps.

Posting on Instagram on Tuesday morning, Forestieri shared a photo of himself and Murray, who left Colchester United at the end of last season, embracing at the final whistle.

What a guy nice to see you @seanmurray_16 #legend

Curiously, though, Murray was not listed on Lincoln's teamsheet, which featured six unnamed trialists, and there is little to link the midfielder with Danny Cowley's side online - suggesting Forestieri may have inadvertently let slip something he wasn't supposed to.

The pair spent three seasons together at Watford, until Sheffield Wednesday prised Forestieri away in 2015.

And Murray left Vicarage Road a year later, moving to Swindon Town initially.
