Steven Gerrard will be aiming to turn Ross McCrorie into a star at Scottish Premiership outfit Rangers.

Steven Gerrard might be the best man possible to get the best out of a player his predecessor, Pedro Caixinha, claimed would be one of the greatest players in the history of Scottish football.
This is a big season for Ross McCrorie, his first full campaign in the Rangers senior squad. And unlike last season, where supporters were pleasantly surprised by the rapid progress made by one of their own, McCrorie will be going into 2018/19 with a bit of pressure on his shoulders.
But with Gerrard at the helm, Rangers new manager should see a few similarities between 20-year-old McCrorie and a man he partnered in the Liverpool midfield, even if the Scottish starlet has a long way to go before he can even dream of following in the footsteps of one Javier Mascherano.
The Barcelona and Argentina legend played alongside Gerrard at Anfield between 2007 and 2010. Mascherano was not only one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation but a truly top drawer centre-back too, who won La Liga five times and the Champions League twice.

McCrorie, like the 147-cap Argentine, can play in both defence and midfield with his tactical awareness, intelligence in possession and ability to start attacks from deep meaning Gerrard will surely draw a few tentative comparisons with Mascherano himself.
But can Gerrard help McCrorie on own path to greatness?
