England are out of the World Cup and while the nation is proud - some fans are busy apportioning blame.

Before the tournament Arsenal legend Tony Adams made a couple of controversial comments about the make up of the England team, arguing there were too many Tottenham players, because he felt they would let the team down.

Ex-Arsenal double winning captain Adams told The Sun: "I’m really worried about these Tottenham players, I don’t think they know how to win.

"They’re very good players but at certain points in seasons and tournaments, you have to step up — there’s a psyche players must have.”

The England team went about proving Adams wrong in the early rounds, and Tottenham striker Harry Kane is the current World Cup golden boot leader.

Kieran Trippier has been outstanding all tournament, and he and both Eric Dier netted penalties against Colombia, while Dele Alli netted in the quarter final against Sweden.

Last night against Croatia England fell short, beaten 2-1 after extra time as the team tired.

Kane missed an early first half chance while Alli offered little, and Eric Dier contributed nothing after he came on.

Kieran Trippier was the exception, stepping up and scoring a spectacular early free-kick to give England the lead.

A number of fans of rivals Arsenal have been commenting on social media, believing Adams is right, with England falling short of reachinf the final.

It is harsh to blame Tottenham stars Alli and Kane, but after seeing Adams take abuse all tournament for his comments, some Arsenal fans are sticking up for him and believe he doesn't look so silly after all...
