The Magpies may need to shift players out before Rafael Benitez can really move to bring new faces in, with Chancel Mbemba, Henri Saivet, Matt Ritchie and Aleksandar Mitrovic all primed for exits.
Another player almost certainly heading out of the club is midfielder Colback, who has seemingly never quite convinced Benitez that he is good enough for Newcastle.
After a bit-part role in the Championship, Colback was frozen out for the first half of last season, as it was made clear that he wouldn’t be playing any sort of role under Benitez.
A loan move to Nottingham Forest came in January, and having impressef at the City Ground, he now looks set to stay with Aitor Karanka’s side on a permanent basis.
Tonight, the Northern Echo report that Colback is all set to join Forest on a full-time basis, with Karanka pushing for the Forest board to get a deal done.
Midfielder Colback, 27, is now in line to become Forest’s latest summer deal, following the likes of Costel Pantilimon, Jack Robinson, Joao Carvalho, Diogo Goncalves, El Hilal Soudani and Lewis Grabban to the City Ground.
The move would also see Colback’s Newcastle dream end, four years since making the controversial move to leave Sunderland for his boyhood club.
