Gladbach are closing in on snapping up Plea, who Newcastle were thought to have made their top target earlier this summer.
Newcastle submitted a £20 million offer for Plea, but were told to raise their bid by £5 million.
In the meantime, Gladbach have also come in for the striker, and Plea reportedly feels that a move to the Bundesliga could benefit him more than a switch to the Premier League.
As a result, Nice intend to charge Newcastle more for Plea than they have Gladbach.
Whether Newcastle will be willing to pay Nice’s asking price for Plea remains to be seen, but they are running out of time to hijack Gladbach’s move.
Newcastle are in desperate need of a striker for the upcoming campaign, and Plea netted regularly in Ligue 1 last term.
If Plea doesn’t sign for Newcastle, Salmon Rondon has been touted as a potential option for Rafael Benitez’s men.
