According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa are keen to lure Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe back to the club on a loan deal this summer.
Villa missed out on promotion back to the Premier League with a 1-0 Championship play-off final defeat to Fulham, and the repercussions have hit the club hard.
Missing out on the huge finances that come with promotion have left Villa in a financial nightmare, and manager Steve Bruce is approaching the new season knowing that topplayers such as James Chester and Jack Grealish could be sold to raise funds.
With Chester potentially going and both John Terry and Chris Samba released, Villa need options at the back – and Bruce appears to be looking for a favour from former club Manchester United.
The Birmingham Mail report that Villa want to bring United defender Axel Tuanzebe back to Villa Park this summer, having taken him on loan during the January transfer window earlier this year.
Tuanzebe, 20, is one of the top young talents at Old Trafford, and showed promise in five appearances for Villa, before injury cut his playing time and he returned to United.
The youngster doesn't appear to be in Jose Mourinho's first-team plans with the Red Devils, and Championship playing time could be beneficial – especially if he plays in his preferred position of centre back.
United and Villa seem to have a strong relationship given that Tuanzebe and Sam Johnstone both spent time on loan with Villa last season, and Bruce will now be hoping that Tuanzebe returns for another stint this summer.
