Newcastle United supporters fear that they are being left behind by Fulham, and have called for Rafael Benitez to have more funds.
Some Newcastle United fans are up in arms about Fulham signing Jean Michel Seri, while they still struggle for transfers.
Fulham paid £25 million to sign Seri from Nice, according to the Guardian, while Newcastle’s transfers have been far less eye-catching this summer.
The arrival of Kenedy today has been celebrated, but he has only moved to St. James’ Park on loan.
Newcastle have also snapped up Ki Sung-Yeung on a free transfer and brought in Martin Dubravka for a fairly small fee.
And Newcastle supporters are frustrated that a newly promoted club such as Fulham is showing more ambition than them in the transfer market.
Fulham spending double our transfer-record on their first signing after promotion is a sad indictment of how Rafa must run through hoops and shop for bargains just to try and compete with these clubs.— NUFC 360 (@NUFC360) July 12, 2018
You seen what Woolves are spending along with WHU we in the poundshop thanks to Mike no ambishon Ashley.— Allan Shields (@AllanShields45) July 12, 2018
It's hard to think where the hell the cash coming in actually goes, it's pretty ridiculous, can't sign townsend til Richie is sold.. Prob can't sign striker til mitro goes.. Literally spending nothing..— myoung (@myoungy2805) July 12, 2018
Ashley's outlook is why should I spend £100m when I know Rafa can keep us up for a tenth of that.... therein lies the 11 year old problem— NUFC 1892 (@TheToon1892) July 12, 2018
not even a year, im absolutely fuming, we wont even spend 20 million on a player and heres a newly promoted team splashing that much, more than doubled our transfer budget— ross (@KenedyGeordie) July 12, 2018
Fulham signing Seri for over £30 million should prove to everyone that Ashley is draining every penny he can from Newcastle United. Yet people will still defend him. How can Fulham afford that sort of deal but Newcastle can only afford loan deals.. #NUFC— Paul Charters (@Chartersss) July 12, 2018
So wait Fulham signing Seri & we’re out here loaning Kenedy, Ashley needs to fund up or ship out now we’re getting left by newly promoted teams #NUFC— . (@Tyler_S9) July 12, 2018
Newcastle did manage to stay up fairly comfortably last season, and there were hopes that Rafael Benitez would be able to spend this summer.
However, Newcastle appear to be shopping on a budget again, as they look for additions to improve the quality of Benitez’s squad.
Fulham and Newcastle are actually in discussions this summer, with the Cottagers thought to be keen to bring in Aleksandar Mitrovic.
