Liverpool were reportedly interested in Gent winger Moses Simon earlier this summer.

Liverpool were linked with a move for £10million-rated Nigeria international Moses Simon in June, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

The 23-year-old KAA Gent winger, who has been heavily scouted by the Reds, was allegedly seen as the perfect backup to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane due to his pace and ability to play on both wings.

However, Liverpool's interest in Simon have been turned down a notch in recent weeks, and the player has now confirmed that there has been no concrete bid from the club as yet.

The speedster missed the World Cup and, subsequently, his chance to impress Liverpool and potential suitors due to a hip injury.

Simon is currently in Holland with Gent for pre-season training ahead of next term and, with the Reds now reportedly keen on Stoke City's Xherdan Shaqiri, a move for him does not seem to be on the cards anymore.

“Well, for now, I’m still a player of KAA Gent; obviously, there was interest from Liverpool but nothing is concrete for now,” he told AOI Football.

Simon contributed six goals and three assists to help Gent finish fourth in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League last term, and has attracted a lot of Premier League interest in the past.

Liverpool need quality back-up on the wings next term and, while the Nigerian could have been a great addition, Shaqiri's top-flight experience means he is likely to be a better fit for manager Jurgen Klopp.
