Stoke City hope to land one of Liverpool's youngsters on loan as Xherdan Shaqiri closes in on a move to Anfield, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims Stoke expect Shaqiri - whose contract contains a buy-out clause of around £13.5 million - to leave for Liverpool after the two clubs opened talks about a deal, with Anfield his preferred destination.

And the Potters aim to replace the winger with either Harry Wilson or Sheyi Ojo, having already registered an interest in the former and enquired about the latter, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Wilson, who scored or made 10 goals in 13 games while on loan to Hull City last season, signed a new long-term contract on Tuesday, but could be granted another temporary spell away from Liverpool if Shaqiri arrives.
