Newcastle United duo Jonjo Shelvey and Ki Sung-yueng played together at Swansea City.

Ki Sung-yueng was a wanted man before his move to Newcastle United, with Everton among the clubs reported to have been interested in the former Swansea City midfielder.
The 29-year-old central midfielder left Swansea at the end of last season following the Swans’ relegation from the Premier League to the Championship.
The South Korea international recently joined Newcastle on a free transfer, but not before turned down offers from Premier League rivals Everton and West Ham, as reported by The Chronicle (click here to read more).
Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey played with Ki at Swansea, and the 26-year-old England international – who earns £70,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – has raved about the former Celtic star – and his comments will surely excite the St. James’ Park faithful.
The Shields Gazette quotes Shelvey as saying: “Ki’s a great lad. He’s very neat and tidy on the ball. He’s just a great lad to have around.
“When I was at Swansea, we probably had the best season (2014-15) that Swansea have had in the Premier League.
“That was probably down to the midfield we had. We just clicked. It brings in another competitive face as well, so that’ll add to the squad. He’s a great player. He’s a very talented person.”

Quality signing
Ki knows the Premier League inside out, and the South Korea international central midfielder is a smart signing for Newcastle.
If Shelvey and Ki are able to replicate the partnership they formed in the middle of the park when the duo were at Swansea, then Newcastle fans are in for a treat.
