Marcus Maddison shone for Peterborough United in League One but will he get his Championship break with West Bromwich Albion?

Who knows where Marcus Maddison will end up this summer.

Alongside Peterborough United teammate Jack Marriott, arguably the best creative talent in League One has rarely been absent from the gossip columns since the season ended and has been linked constantly with Championship clubs.

One name absent from the speculation so far, however, is West Bromwich Albion.

But Bet Victor have put odds of 8/1 on Maddison moving to the Hawthorns this summer. The Baggies are priced just behind Nottingham Forest and Reading, both of whom have been heavily linked with the one-time Newcastle United youngster.

24-year-old Maddison has never played above League One level but clearly has the talent to perform in a higher division. He scored 12 goals and assisted 23 more in all competitions last season, despite Peterborough falling well short in the race for the play-offs.

A set piece specialist who is capable of producing something spectacular out of very little, Durham-born Maddison would add some creativity to a West Brom side who finished bottom of the Premier League last season. He wouldn’t cost the world either.

Maddison has a release clause in his contract worth just £2.5 million, as reported by the Reading Chronicle, and Peterborough manager Steve Evans hinted on Monday that he and Marriott could both be on their way out of the London Stadium.

“We need to score goals from more areas this season as we won’t be able to rely on Jack Marriott and Marcus Maddison,” Evans told the Peterborough Telegraph.
