Gelson Martins was linked with a move to Tottenham last month.
Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his official website that Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Sporting Lisbon attacker Gelson Martins - despite being linked with Tottenham Hotspur last month.
The Times reported last month that Spurs were interested in the 23-year-old attacker, who was a part of Portugal's 2018 World Cup campaign that were knocked out by Uruguay in the Round of 16.
Spurs were said to be just one of a number of clubs interested in Martins, after he requested the termination of his Sporting contract following a training ground attack - along with the likes of Rui Patricio, William Carvalho and Bruno Fernandes.
Last season, the fleet-footed attacker wowed Sporting fans with 13 goals and 13 assists throughout the 2017-18 campaign, but could not do enough to help Sporting win the Liga NOS - instead finishing in a disappointing third.
Now, Di Marzio claims Martins has rejected Monaco and a Premier League move to join Diego Simeone's Atletico, where he will sign a five-year contract and earn £60,000 a week including bonuses.
Atletico have made huge strides in this transfer window already, securing the future of Barcelona-linked Antoine Griezmann and bringing in star players such as former Monaco winger Thomas Lemar and midfielder Rodri from Villarreal.
Tottenham, on the other hand, are yet to make any signings under Mauricio Pochettino.
