A number of Rangers have taken to Twitter to comment on the news that the club confirmed on one of their official Twitter accounts that Liam Burt has been handed a contract extension to take his deal until the end of next season.

Burt has been considered one of the most exciting talents coming through at Ibrox for a while now. The midfielder made his first-team debut for the Gers at the age of 17 and managed to make a couple more appearances for the first-team during Mark Warburton's tenure.

Unfortunately for the 19-year-old, he has been unable to force his way into the side since then. Injury has been one of the reasons for his struggles, and some may have previously feared that his time with the club may be about to come to an end this summer.

However, after a very promising loan spell with Dumbarton, Burt, like striker Ryan Hardie, has earned himself a new contract that is set to run until next summer - as confirmed by the club's official academy account on Twitter.

The news has gone down well with the fans on social media. Some seem to believe that Burt could still become an important player for the club in the future and he now has the platform to prove that he should remain on the Light Blues' books beyond 2019.

If Burt can stay fit throughout the coming year, it seems more than likely that he will be able to prove himself to Steven Gerrard, and perhaps it may not be entirely out of the question for the starlet to potentially add to his handful of first-team appearances during the Englishman's first year in charge.
