Cardiff City have confirmed the signing of Joe Bennett to a new contract that takes him up until the summer of 2021.

The 28-year-old joined the Bluebirds on a free transfer two summers ago from Aston Villa, after loan spells with Brighton, Bournemouth and Sheffield Wednesday, and has made 66 appearances for the club.

Bennett has followed in the footsteps of Junior Hoilett and Neil Etheridge in signing a new three-year deal, with Cardiff working hard to prepare themselves for their first season back in the Premier League.

The club have also recently completed deals for Bobby Reid from Bristol City, Alex Smithies of Queens Park Rangers, Greg Cunningham from Preston North End and Norwich winger Josh Murphy.

Bennett was a mainstay for Cardiff last season and impressed at left-back, and fans on the whole seem pretty pleased with the news he has decided to extend his stay with the club.

Not only was he solid defensively but he also offered good support in the final third at times and his goal away at Reading was shortlisted for the Bluebirds' Goal of the Season award.

The defender will no doubt have his sights set on staying in the Premier League come the end of the 2018/19 season, and the supporters are excited to see how he fares in the English top flight with a new deal under his belt:
