The Algeria international was keen on a move to the Etihad in January, but both clubs couldn't agree on a fee at the time.
A King Power Stadium exit was always on the cards for Mahrez after he first submitted a transfer request in the summer of 2017, with AS Monaco interested in his services.
Mahrez was signed from Le Havre in January 2014, helping the then-Championship side return to the topflight for the first time in ten years at the end of the campaign.
He scored 17 league goals in 2015–16, emerging as the PFA Players' Player of the Year as Leicester City shocked the world.
Despite a sharp dip in form that saw him return just six league goals the following season, Mahrez was again at his best last term, scoring 12 times in 36 league games as the Foxes finished in ninth place in the table.
Leicester City will surely miss their talisman, and here is how their fans reacted to news that a move to Manchester City is about to be sealed.
He will play for them and he wont have to worry about defending either with Kyle Walker looking after him. Pep made Sterling look* good.... Mahrez will be disgusting in that Man City side.— HEGGSY (@HEGGSY_16) July 3, 2018
That’s insultingly low. It really is. But I suppose we just want rid of him and his antics now. Shame really.— Ian Bradley (@ianbradley85) July 3, 2018
Gutted Mahrez is actually leaving and still think he's worth more than £60m but at least it's almost over. Please god don't let us replace him with Andros Townsend #LCFC— Jack Colegrove (@JackColegrove) July 3, 2018
I’m sad to see Mahrez leaving #lcfc but if the deal goes through, I wish him all the very best and it’s the right thing for everyone that he gets his move. I will not slate him as I’ve enjoyed watching him play for us and we achieved the unthinkable and he was a big part of that!— Kate Hadley (@KateHadley1) July 3, 2018
So Mahrez looks like he is heading to Man City after it so nearly happened 5 months ago! Mahrez been an awesome Algerian for Leicester and will be so remembered for his magicianary 2015-16! He will be missed but no more influx of Algerians invading #lcfc social media!— Alex Loukopoulos (@cadburysmeaow) July 3, 2018

Has to be £80m or more, especially this close to the end of the window.— Matty Williamson (@mattyfromle) January 30, 2018
