Bates joined Hamburg for free after deciding to turn down Rangers' contract offer.
David Bates has been pictured for the first time in Hamburger SV kit after returning to pre-season with the German outfit following his move from Rangers - and Gers fans have wished him the best of luck.
The 21-year-old defender left Rangers at the end of the season after the Gers failed to meet his contract demands, with his previous Ibrox deal expiring on May 31.
He made the surprise move to sign a four-year deal with Hamburg, who since signing have been relegated to the second tier of German football. However, he joins a side that boast talent such as Lewis Holtby and Bobby Wood.
Hamburg put a picture of Bates on their official Twitter account in the German side's kit, just months after ending his Rangers spell where he made 28 league and cup appearances.
The loss of Bates has seen Rangers enter the market for new centre-backs, with Steven Gerrard bringing in Connor Goldson from Brighton and Nikola Katic from Slaven Belupo.
Rangers fans reacted to Hamburg's Tweet, wishing their former defender the best of luck as he donned the German side's kit for the first time.
Solid no nonsense defender who was arguably our best defender last season. Still developing and learning and you’ve got a very good defender in David Bates. Good luck for next season, club and player.— DM (@bathgateranger) June 22, 2018
