Much was expected of Cristian Gamboa when the defender arrived at Celtic in the summer of 2016 from West Bromwich Albion for a transfer fee reported by Herald Scotland to be worth £1 million, but the Costa Rica right-back has struggled to make a huge impact at Celtic Park.

The 28-year-old right-back has made just 24 appearances in all competitions for Celtic in the two years he has been at the Glasgow giants, as stated on the club’s official website.

Gamboa was in action for Costa Rica against Brazil in their World Cup Group E match and played well, although the South American giants won 2-0, thanks to two late goals.

The former West Brom right-back played well against Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar and also made some good runs in attack.

Celtic fans were following the match, and they were impressed with the performance of Gamboa and praised him on Twitter.
