Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere will be leaving the club this summer after he took to Instagram to post an announcement about his departure.

Wilshere, 26, has been on the books with the Gunners since 2001 having made a move from Luton Town, and he was highly-touted as a teenager with the club.

The midfielder may have racked up nearly 200 appearances for the club, but he has also struggled with a host of injuries over the years, diminishing his impact under Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal were left with a big decision this summer, with Wilshere's contract set to expire, and after months of speculation, the midfielder has taken the decision out of the club's hands.

Wilshere took to Instagram on Tuesday night in order to confirm that he felt he had no other option but to move on after talks with new Arsenal boss Unai Emery, making him a free agent this summer.

A host of clubs have been linked with moves to sign Wilshere, with The Sun reporting on Sunday that West Ham were confident they could seal a deal worth £130,000-a-week over a four-year deal.

Unsurprisingly, Wilshere's announcement sparked a major reaction from West Ham fans, especially given that there are photos from Wilshere's childhood of him wearing the famous claret and blue shirt of the Hammers.

Hammers fans want the red carpet rolled out for Wilshere, believing that he must be signed on a free transfer to boost Manuel Pellegrini's midfield, urging David Gold to get a deal done quickly.
